Austin Neighborhoods

Texas Hill CountryAfter Alaska, the state of Texas is the largest state in the United States of America with 2,705 square miles. Austin, Texas is the capitol and it is located pretty much in the central area in a hilly region. In fact, Austin, Texas is in what's called the Texas Hill Country. Austin has a rich history. There were perhaps dozens of Native American tribes that lived in the Hill Country and it wouldn't be surprising if beneath an austin neighborhood, there was some remnants or artifacts related to the nomadic tribes that lived and thrived in the area.

Some of the tribes that visited the Austin area were the Lipan Apaches, Tonkawa and the Comanche's. The land was rich with the Colorado River supplying plentiful and steady pure water to nourish their small crops and settlements. The eighteenth longest river in the United States, the Colorado River - which means 'colored red,' is 862 miles long and drains into the Gulf of Mexico.

In 1835 all that changed as westerners moved to the site, attracted by its good soil, plentiful water and strategic location. Soon, the first Texans became involved in much gambling, prostitution and many other vices. One wonders what craziness may have been going on beneath most Austin neighborhoods when considering its rich history. In later years, Austin established a few universities such as the University of Texas and began to slowly evolve. The early years were difficult and tough but the city survived to become the official capital of the state. Austin's climate is relatively mild with a subtropical climate with pretty hot and humid summers and mild, very tolerable winters.

For centuries or perhaps thousands of years, the people in the area hunted, farmed, traded and occasionally warred amongst each other without much change in their techniques or their tribal belief systems. Both pantheistic and polytheistic, their religious or spiritual focus was mostly related to natural forces and attributes. The Earth, for instance, was alive in a sense. Like the Greek Gaia goddess, the world soul spoke to people with natural signs and visions. Over time, Austin's growth into a metropolitan area attracted more and more commerce. Culturally, Austin grew by leaps and bounds, attracting musicians and even movie producers. Austin Texas is now known for its films. In the 1990's, Austin attracted many tech savvy engineers and programmers and is now well as a tech center and is home to big computer hardware and software companies.
