Winter Park Mountain Homes

Surrounded by the Arapaho National Forest and resting in the shadows of the Rocky Mountains, not many locations in the United States can boast the scenic views of Winter Park, Colorado. From its snow-topped peaks to glistening mountain streams, Winter Park sets an exclusive backdrop for exciting outdoor activity and soothing rest and relaxation. Thousands of visitors find their way to the exclusive mountain town to simply get away from the hustle and congestion of the city. With so much to offer, it’s no wonder there’s such a growing interest in Winter Park mountain homes.

Just a 90-minute drive west of downtown Denver on U.S. Highway 40, Winter Park is nestled on the western slope of the Continental Divide. The first to inhabit the area were construction workers involved in the excavation of the Moffat Tunnel. A valley merchant since the early twenties, “Doc” Graves set his sites on the area and started construction on what was to become Hideaway Park. Consisting of 26 tourist cabins, a café and service station, Graves powered his village with a water wheel he installed in the nearby Vasquez Creek. As the village experienced growth and economic prosperity, the Winter Park Ski Resort opened its doors in 1939. For years, the mountain town hosted thousands of visitors looking to enjoy the world-class ski slopes and became recognized as one of the premiere winter vacation destinations for the entire country. It wasn’t until August 1, 1978 however that Winter Park was officially founded. Today, Winter Park is commonly referred to as “Colorado’s Highest,” considering the mountain village can claim the highest elevation of any incorporated town in the United States with 12,060 feet above sea level.

Not just a ski town, Winter Park has so much to offer in the department of outdoor activities. From miles of hiking trails to all sorts of places to cruise on a mountain bike, Winter Park fills the void of so many visitors who simply look to explore nature’s marvels. Some patrons even capture the sites on horseback or capture a glimpse from the heights of a hot air balloon ride. Outdoor music festivals and farmer’s markets also are scattered throughout Winter Park during the summer months. Even activities like the Annual Snow Mountain Disc Golf Tournament take place for the more eclectic crowd in Winter Park.

Regardless of what visitors to Winter Park are after, there is much to experience in this charming little mountain town. Increasingly, more people are seeking the highly coveted Winter Park mountain homes that pocket themselves in the mountain wilderness. Winter Park simply is the destination of choice for those who look to enjoy all that the Rockies have to offer.
